Dear Evie+Sarah: I just celebrated my 30th birthday and was overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and family. Actually, the generosity of one friend in particular sent me into a state of shock. She purchased a new Coach handbag for me, which I know to cost nearly $200. I couldn’t believe it! My concern is that I don’t really feel like I can reciprocate with that degree of generosity. (And if I’m being totally honest, I’m not sure I want to either.) I thanked my friend profusely when I opened the gift, I wrote her a thank you note, and…

Usually, we pick our friends because of what we have in common, and major life differences are deal-breakers. But for me and my friend Claire—who I’ve known since the 9th grade, who went to college with me, who was in my wedding—the greatest potential wedge in our friendship has just never been a focus of conversation, until now: Why did she decided to make sure she’d never become a mother at the same time as I was building my family? In this week’s episode, I’m interviewing my one and only childless friend about why and how she committed what she…

Sarah’s starting a new culinary adventure this week: Veganism! A documentary called What the Health caught her attention and launched her into a quest for the truth about which foods are actually healthy. Tune in for a lively discussion about going vegan.      Or listen here. Dear Evie+Sarah: I have this friend who is constantly trying my lipstick and lipgloss without my offering, and it grosses me out. We’ll be out together, touching up our makeup in the bathroom, and she’ll reach over and grab my new lipstick right out of my hand and spread all over her lips. I know I’m being a total germaphobe. She’s one of my closest friends, and it’s not like I’m worried about contracting any particular disease from her, I just don’t necessarily want to swap spit via my brand new lipgloss tube. How can I get her to stop?? —Grossed…

I’ve been using a Bullet Journal for about two years now, and I’m starting to wonder, Is the Bullet Journal a fad? It’s easy to see in hindsight how something that blows up as quickly as the Bullet Journal did can end up being a short-term craze. People get excited about a new gadget, a new system, a new status symbol of wealth or privilege or introspection, and we all dive in headlong without taking stock of the best practices and potential benefits. Maybe I was one of those people who got swept up in the craze. I was mesmerized by…

We’re hard at work on some new episodes of Best Friend Banter. So this week, we’re bringing you a listener favorite from the archives, originally titled “The Princess and the (Over)Protective Parents.” Are pink sparkly gowns, tiaras, and tiny plastic heels all part of a harmless dress-up tradition, or does Princess Culture give girls a harmful message about their value in society? Is princess culture either/or? Make sure to stay tuned for a brand new episode next week! And don’t forget, for a limited time, we’re offering listeners $5 Starbucks gift cards just for leaving us a quick review on…
