Got a friend who is having a baby? The first time, every mom needs everything. But as she welcomes more children into her family, she needs less and less. Right?
Not so, actually. She just needs different things! Here are our suggestions!
Gift Card to Local Photographer
Even if you don’t want to splurge for the whole session, a gift card to pay for a mini session or a partial full session is such a fabulous idea. We all love photos of our babies, but prices can add up super fast. Along this line of gifts would be picture frames, especially ones that have cute sayings for “big brother” or “big sister” on them.
Veteran moms use lots of hand me down clothing. But there is nothing like a special baby outfit just for the third boy, the fourth girl, etc. The more children a mom has, the less likely she will buy new things. A special outfit is the perfect splurge.
Each year, baby toys get more and more exciting. And often, a new, veteran mom may not buy new toys for her new addition because her house already has everything. And while that may be true, there are always some really cute new things to entice a growing mind. My favorite this year is the Fisher Price Bright Beats Smart Touch Play Space. It’s the perfect size for a sitting infant, as the baby can reach from one end to the other, press the “keys” to hear music and see lights, and reach down to spin the toys. Later, when he’s standing, the baby can use it to steady himself, and when he’s walking, he can dance to the little songs.
And don’t forget bath toys! Bath toys don’t last very long, so a bag of plastic bath fish are the perfect gift!
A Baby Book
When my third baby was born, I literally went to Hallmark the day before my c-section to pick up a baby book. I felt incredibly guilty that it had slipped my mind the entire pregnancy! So a cute scrapbook or photo album will be a thoughtful choice for the veteran (and super busy!) mom.
The veteran mom is all about practicality. So diapers, diaper cream, portable diaper pads, wipes, bubble bath, bibs, plastic spoons, and pacifiers are always in demand.
Cute, personalized growth charts, (if you know the nursery theme) or personalized shirts for big brother, big sister, or the baby can be adorable gifts. The t-shirts will be the perfect outfit for the siblings to wear when meeting the new baby at the hospital!!
We love Petite Lemon for personalized gifts!
Bath Towels and Blankets
Cozy hooded towels, personalized embroidered blankets or soft washcloths are fantastic ways to welcome a new addition. This is an especially fun gift if there is already a baby of the same gender in the family, because it sets the new baby apart from his siblings by giving him something that is solely for him.
Gifts for Mom
After childbirth, a mom deserves to be pampered too! A fruit basket, snacks, some special lotion, or even some chocolate will go a long way to make a sleep deprived mom smile! Comfy pajamas, slippers, or even a bathrobe can be just what an exhausted mama needs to get her through the long nights and chaotic days.
Organic Favorites Gift Basket from Shari’s Berries
If you really want to spoil a new mom, gift her a baby carrier. We love the Boba, because it fits almost everyone and isn’t as particular as woven wraps or ring slings. And once you start adding more than one child to a family, a baby carrier is an absolute must-have!
