Can I be honest? I hate shopping for new clothes. The thought of spending the day in an overcrowded mall browsing through racks and racks of ill-fitting, unattractive, overpriced clothes to walk away with three new pieces makes me want to take a nap instead! So I do most of my shopping online, and I try to wait for big sales, like Macy’s Friends & Family Sale, which is going on right NOW!
Can I share what I found? Lots of hits, and a few misses.
(Hey, excuse the DSLR bathroom selfies, but I don’t have one of those Instagram husbands…yet.)
You already know I’ve been dying for flared jeans (really bell bottom) jeans to come back in style, and my day has come! Check out this high-waisted + super wide flare from Free People. They could be a smidge longer (I’m wearing them with heels here), but with a 34″ inseam, I’m asking for a lot.
I even got brave and paired the high-waist with a lacy crop top. My husband’s response: “You look like Jessa” (GIRLS fans will get the reference). I think that’s a good thing??
Something a little less out-there: slightly flared jeans plus an easy-care shirt with pretty cut-out details. Again, the jeans could be longer, but overall, they fit beautifully because they zip up the side rather than having a fly in front. The buttons give a nautical vibe that I love for spring and summer.
Don’t laugh at me! I know you’re probably asking yourself why the hell I’d be purchasing a sweater dress at the start of Houston’s stifling summer season, but the answer is I LOVED IT!
Who doesn’t love the ease of throwing on a dress, any time of year, and having your outfit take care of itself? The red zipper down the side plus the way they styled the dress with white tennis shoes were very appealing.
Here’s something more seasonally appropriate! Funny enough, I bought THREE black/navy striped dresses in this wardrobe refresh. Here’s number 2, which I love. It’s a little short, but I’m pretty well past the phase of constantly bending over with babies and inadvertently flashing everyone :)
Here’s the third stripped dress. I don’t know why I didn’t pick up on this when I viewed the dress online, but it totally fits like a maternity dress Not okay.
Doesn’t this dress look super chic on the model? Well, it fit me like a potato sack. I ordered a size 4 but could still pinch about 3″ of fabric in back (see photo on right). That’s how you know the US has a sizing issue! I don’t want my clothes to be skin tight, but this dress wasn’t flattering at all. Plus, quite short!
Don’t forget the shoes!
Fringe is hot for spring, and I couldn’t resist these sandals. I’m a sucker for a wedge heel and these are quite comfortable!
